I love going to have a drink or dinner at a bar alone to meet new people.  Sometimes it’s just nice to hear a new story.  An easy way to get out of my head and shrug off the crap bothering me.  Other people’s crap is much more interesting, and usually people like to have a fresh perspective.  Sometimes they don’t but just want to be heard.

Whatever the case may be, I always meet someone who intrigues me, and I leave the restaurant with a smile.

Some have become friends. Two of which are named Bob.  I just realized that!

And no, all of the “people” I meet aren’t men.  Women are usually a little more guarded, but after a couple of minutes, they open up pretty easily.

I always suggest this idea to Julia and Meghan.  FINALLY the other day Julia found herself eating her favorite veggie burger alone at Houston’s.  Within a half hour she text me to say she was having a great time and met two interesting new people.

I’m telling you, you’ll love it.  Even if you’re not a social butterfly.  BETTER if you’re not.  This will give you the opportunity to be yourself and open up without the pressure of the other person judging you or reporting back to a mutual friend.

Admittedly, some cities have friendlier residents than others.  New York restaurants are teeming with people looking to connect with someone new, while LA peeps tend to keep to their cliques. Hotel bars are a sure thing if you’re unsure where to go and who you’ll find.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers!
